Exploring the Life of Angling
On January 11, Hunter Towery and I were invited to set up our event booth for the second annual Outfitters Day at The Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando.
Hosted by Mark Benson, Director of Fly Fishing at the resort, Outfitters Day is an event which showcases area fly fishing professionals on the pristine casting lawn at the Grande Lakes clubhouse.
A variety of retailers, gear companies, and manufacturers displayed their angling products during the day, while a number of fly fishing guides wowed visitors with stories of their trips. Several fly fishing clubs and charities talked with visitors about their services, and the Florida Wildlife Commission highlighted their mission to conserve natural resources.
At our booth, Hunter spoke with anglers about fly fishing opportunities in Florida and Colorado where he divides his time guiding. I was happy to speak with the angling-mad crew from Orlando Outfitters, who carry my book The Beautiful Addiction, to meet readers face to face, hear their fishing successes, and sign a couple copies.
The Ritz Carlton is a world class managed fishing location. Developed with the help of Benson, a native of the area, the resort has 11 featherwater lakes and ponds that are part of the Shingle Creek water shed. A day with any of Benson’s guides features exciting fishing action in a relaxed natural setting.
Hunter and I are grateful to Benson, The Ritz Carlton, and our visitors for a great day.
